About Tammy Flanagan

Tammy Flanagan has been providing retirement planning assistance to federal employees since 1985 when she first began her work as a retirement benefits specialist at the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  Her extensive knowledge of the federal benefits systems and her ability to explain difficult concepts in an easy to understand manner has made her a sought after speaker and presenter at pre-retirement seminars, training conferences and online training events. Throughout her career, she has also enjoyed assisting individual employees by providing guidance and pre-retirement benefits counseling.

Kay Johnson, Retirement Benefits Counselor

Kay W. Johnson is a retirement counselor with more than twenty years of benefits, and retirement administration gained in both the public, and in the private sector.  Ms. Johnson’s career started as a human resource (HR) assistant at the Brookings Institution.  She later became a paralegal, and a HR contractor, and she quickly advanced to a contract, Pension Law Specialist Supervisor, at the Pension Benefits Guaranty Corporation (PBGC).  
In 1994, she accepted a federal government position as a Federal Retirement, Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) Trainer, with the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (Board).   At the Board, she traveled extensively conducting retirement seminars, and training government employees, payroll specialist, and human resource professionals regarding provisions of the TSP.  Ms. Johnson received more than 100 letters of commendation for providing outstanding service to TSP participants.   
Ms. Johnson transferred from the Executive Branch to the Judiciary to become the Retirement Benefits Trainer for the Administrative Office of the U. S. Courts.  She appeared frequently as the benefits subject matter expert on the Judicial Television network, and she received numerous awards, and commendable certificates for her meticulous performance.   
Kay enjoyed helping government employees plan their retirement, and understand their benefits portfolio, however, she constantly envisioned starting her own company.  Therefore, in 2006, after retiring from the government, she started her own retirement consulting firm, Right Resources Group, Inc. (RRGI).  Under the auspices of RRGI, Kay provided Senior Retirement Benefits Counseling services for two years as the Senior Benefits Retirement Counselor, contractor for the Environmental Protection Agency, and from 2010 to March 2017, she served as a contract, Senior Retirement Counselor for the National Labor Relations Board.     
Ms. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Paralegal Studies from University of Maryland, University College (UMUC), and a Masters in Human Resource Management from UMUC.  She also holds a Society for Human Resource Management Certificate from George Washington University, Center for Professional Development.   
Helping prospective retirees realize their dreams is a top priority for Kay.  Her counseling style instills a feeling of trust and confidence in her clients, and it promotes a positive learning curve in the customer.   
Ms. Johnson lives in Takoma Park, Maryland, with her family, and her motto is, “Make each day count.  Help someone draw a little bit closer to a worthwhile goal.”

Sheila Nichols, Retirement Specialist

Sheila Nichols is a retirement and benefits expert, helping federal employees transition from their federal careers into retirement. She retired from the federal government herself in 2015 after 33 years of federal service. Ms. Nichols has worked for the Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). She has given various seminars over the years on topics related to retirement and benefits to federal employees. In 2010, Ms. Nichols received the highest honor bestowed upon NIST employees, the Bronze Medal, recognizing her for her superb leadership and customer service in helping employees navigate through their federal benefits and into retirement.


Upon her retirement from federal service, Ms. Nichols created her own business, HR4U2 LLC, providing training and consulting services in human resources. Her passion is providing benefits and retirement counseling and helping others transition smoothly into retirement. Ms. Nichols most recently provided her retirement and benefits expertise under a contract with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).


Ms. Nichols is currently working with Long Term Care Partners LLC and gives presentations on long term care insurance for federal employees and retirees. She is an active member of the National Active Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) and the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM).


Ms. Nichols has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Frostburg State University and a M.B.A. from Frostburg as well.

She lives in Frederick, Maryland with her husband and four teacup poodles (Martini, Shaker, Margarita, and Salt).
